&straet-YusuFr A. N. K. & SIDDIQI A. H. 1976. Comparative studies on the lipid composition of some digenetic trematodes. International Journczt for Parasitology 6: 5-8. Neutral lipids and phospholipids of six digenetic trematodes, C~ty/oph#ron c~ty/~phurum, Gastrothytax crumenifer and Gigantocuty~e expl~~tum from water buffalo, Echjnffstom~ rn~Iay~nurn and Fas~iotopsis buski from pig and Zs~purorcbjs hypseZffb~gr~ from cat-fish were analyzed. Total lipid concentrations in trematodes varied considerably irrespective of their hosts and habitats. While triglycerides were the major components in all species, considerable amounts of phospholipids and free fatty acids were present in al1 species. Cholesterol was minimum (4-9 %) in more or less all species, except in F. buski, where cholesterol, phospholipids and triglycerides constituted 13-14x and free fatty acids around 7%. Among phospholipids, choline and ethanolamine phosphatides were major polar lipids. Sphingomyelin and cardiolipin were present as small fractions and lysophosphatidylcholine was evenly distributed among all the species (9-12x) except in F. huski, which contained a little higher content (15%).

Morphologic and molecular identifications of digenetic trematodes in double-crested cormorants (Phalacrocorax auritus) from the Mississippi Delta, USA.
Increasing numbers of Double-crested Cormorants (Phalacrocorax auritus) in the Mississippi River Delta, USA, have been observed over the past few decades. This piscivorous bird is a definitive host for numerous digenetic trematodes, some of which may cause pathology in a fish host. We conducted a 2-yr survey of intestinal trematodes in 35 Double-crested Cormorants collected in the Mississippi D...
متن کاملImpact of two parasitic trematodes, Meiogymnophallus minutus and Himasthla spp., on the growth of the cockle, Cerastoderma edule
The impact of two principal parasitic digenetic trematodes, Meiogymnophallus minutus and Himasthla spp., on the growth (weight and length) of the cockle, Cerastoderma edule, in Arcachon Bay (France) was studied. The experiment was conducted in the land-based mesocosms. The velocity of infestation with both trematodes was far more rapid during summer in the cockles already parasitized with these...

In the vertebrate-dwelling adults of the digenetic trematodes spermatogenesis and oogenesis are not fundamentally different from these processes in other metazoan groups. The fertilized ovum in the egg develops directly into the miracidium which contains in its body cavity a varying number of germinal cells. After entering the molluscan intermediate host the miracidium metamorphoses into the pr...

This study documented the population dynamics of Biomphalaria and associated natural infections with digenetic trematodes, along the shores of Lake Albert and Lake Victoria, recording local physicochemical factors. Over a two-and-a-half-year study period with monthly sampling, physicochemical factors were measured at 12 survey sites and all freshwater snails were collected. Retained Biomphalari...
